My CHG Story: Mary Coombs

When it comes to what Mary Coombs, payroll process specialist at CHG in Salt Lake City, Utah, loves about CHG, she could go on and on.

"I am so grateful for the company culture of Putting People First, a generous PTO and holiday schedule, our outstanding menu of benefits and the WellnessPays program to reduce our medical insurance premiums," she says. "Of course, I also love Employee Appreciation Week, fresh fruit delivered almost every day, the market in the Gathering Room and the parties. Our new on-site health center is also an amazing benefit."

However, her favorite thing about coming to work every day is getting to see the people she works with, both in Salt Lake City and at RNnetwork in Boca Raton, Fla.

"I absolutely love being a part of the CHG payroll and commissions team," Mary says. "My leaders and co-workers are outstanding! They are so giving, selfless, helpful, and best of all, everyone has a great sense of humor! I feel valued as a person and an employee here, and I absolutely love coming to work each day!"

In March 2010, the company I worked for prior to CHG eliminated my job. Although their decision made sense, and I knew it wasn't personal, I was still devastated. I had worked there for nine years and believed that I would work there until I retired. I was over 50, had no college degree and I was thrown out of my comfort zone. I remember feeling very sad, rejected and scared; I just didn't know what was out there for me.

Then one day, in the midst of my job search, Sally Johnson, corporate manager of talent acquisition at CHG, called to tell me about an opening for a payroll service specialist at CHG. I had never heard of CHG before, but after she told me a bit about the company, it all seemed too good to be true! She might have noticed the hesitancy in my voice, so she offered to email more information to me. As I started to learn more about CHG, I felt as though I had hit the jackpot! Long story short, that day is now one of the very best days of my life. As it turns out, losing my job ended up being a total blessing in disguise, because it led me to where I am now at CHG, and there is no place at all that I would rather work.

I am always talking about CHG and the fun things we do at work, and as a result, my daughter Kaylee Cisneros became very interested in CHG as well. She was hired as a receptionist in August, and she loves it here as much as I do. As a mom, it gives me a great sense of security knowing that my daughter has a great job at a wonderful company, where she's happy to go to work every day. My younger daughter, Brandi, will be starting college next year to begin her journey of becoming a labor and delivery nurse. Who knows? Maybe she will work for RNnetwork someday!

I have worked at several companies over the years and for me, CHG stands out above all others. One of the unique things about this company is the executives. The leaders here feel strongly about work/life balance and really promote it. They want their employees to have the best of both worlds. I am amazed by how much the executives seem to enjoy and care about their employees. It is not unusual to see them throughout the building amongst the employees; in fact, they personally bring treats around to all of us. Just this week they came around with turkey hats on and handed out pumpkin whoopie pies!

The company does so much for us to reward us for our hard work, but above all else I think the people here make the difference. I've seen fellow employees deal with medical challenges, and the way people here come together in support of them is just indescribable! People here really care about one another. CHG has come as close to being the perfect place to work as anything I've ever experienced!
