Marketing coordinator Sarah Trescott says CHG's unique culture was the driving force behind her applying for a position at the company. In the six months Sarah's worked with the marketing department, she's had the opportunity to experience CHG's people-centric culture firsthand.
"I have never laughed this much at a job or had so many people care about me as a person," Sarah shares. "I appreciate that everyone who works at CHG takes ownership in making this a great place to work. I think what makes our culture so great is that everyone does their best to live by our core values each day."

What do you do at CHG, and what do you like about your job? I work in the marketing department as a marketing coordinator, supporting marketing needs of talent acquisition and corporate business development. The teams I support make my job awesome. I love coming up with creative solutions to problems and making sure the teams I work with have what they need to look sharp and be successful!
When did you come to CHG? I've been at CHG for six whole months. I joined the team right before Thanksgiving.
How did you hear about CHG, and what made you want to apply? The organization I worked with had a great partnership with CHG. So over the years I heard a lot about the CHG culture, benefits and met great CHG people. I had reached a point in my career that I needed to find employment that would be stable and a place where I could grow and stay long-term. CHG seemed to be a place where I could fit in, work hard and still be able to have time to focus on other things outside of work that are important to me.
Where were you working before you came to CHG? I had the really cool opportunity to work for United Way of Salt Lake in their marketing department. United Way in Salt Lake is doing some really amazing things in the community, and I got to be a part of telling their story through social media, writing blog stories and creating a new website.
How has working at CHG compared to your other working experience? I love the unique culture at CHG. I have never laughed this much at a job or had so many people care about me as a person. I appreciate that everyone who works at CHG takes ownership in making this a great place to work. I think what makes our culture so great is that everyone does their best to live by our core values each day. Our values are not just wall decorations, but are truly something you are reminded of each day when you see people talk kindly to each other and work with honesty and integrity.
What can you tell me about your first day? My first day was exciting and overwhelming! It was my first time working at a large company, so going from a team of 4 to 50 was a little crazy! I never thought I'd learn everyone's names. But my co-worker, Sam Schwendiman, gave me an awesome tour of the building and introduced me to a bunch of folks. My team took me out to lunch and made me feel welcome. I remember coming home that night with my face hurting, because I smiled and laughed so much!
What has been your most memorable experience so far? Just a few months ago my boyfriend had a stroke. Overnight he went from a healthy young guy to lying in a hospital bed. It was overwhelming and totally scary. Being in a new job I was really worried. Would my leader understand? How do I manage being at the hospital with not really any PTO saved up? I had worked places that were not really understanding or supportive of work/life balance, so I was truly concerned that being away from work early in my employment would be seen as negative.
I'll never forget hearing from my leader and team to not even think about work, because family always comes first. Co-workers texted with offers of bringing me food at the hospital, helped cover my responsibilities at work, and sent emails and cards saying they were thinking about me. Everyone was truly amazing! Every day I have someone from my department come by and ask how we are doing and if my boyfriend has made progress. It means so much that people truly care about me as a person and not just about the work I do. My boyfriend is up and around again. We are still hoping for a full recovery!
How have you seen CHG's core value of Quality and Professionalism in action? Recently, I've been able to work with corporate business development (CBD) on a presentation and see the time and effort that they take in presenting CHG to potential clients. No matter how big or small the client, CBD puts in a tremendous amount of time making sure they treat clients well and represent CHG in a professional manner. I am really proud to support this team, and it was really cool to see them in action.
How do you know that your work at CHG matters? Sometimes it is hard to see how my work matters. After all, I am not performing lifesaving surgeries on a daily basis or bringing about world peace. But I see my work as being a little less epic. I want people to be successful and better at their job every day. If my support and the marketing materials I provide makes their job easier, then what I do matters.
Do you have any advice for new or potential CHG employees? Bring a good Nerf gun! There are times you may have to defend your cubical from co-workers dressed as banditos. Also a small rearview mirror is helpful in being able to tell when people are sneaking up to scare you by blowing a vuvuzela behind your head (thanks for the small heart attack every day, Preston)! Finally, take time to get involved, volunteer and build relationships, because the people at CHG make this place great!
