Going Places: Amber Schut

Amber.web.jpg Name: Amber Schut (My last name is really Dennis, but I haven't changed it officially.) Position: Licensing manager, CompHealth locum tenens, Salt Lake City, Utah Years at CHG: 8 What is your most memorable experience at CHG? I remember when I was a coordinator on the hospital privileges team. It was a busy time, and I was working longer hours than normal, which meant some additional time away from my son, Mason. At this time the team's director was Wendy Barton. Mason came to visit me at work one day, and Wendy was so sweet with Mason, telling him how great I was, how hard I work and how important I was on the team. I just remember thinking to myself, "Wow!" Not only was that great to hear, but it was also great for my son to hear that when his mom is away from him she is doing something important and it matters! I don't even think I've shared that story with Wendy, but it is a memory that I think about often and am very thankful for! What does CHG's core value of Continuous Improvement mean to you, and how have you seen it in action? Continuous Improvement is the opportunity to better yourself in whatever you choose. I used to think in the professional world professional development meant a promotion of some sort. I've learned through time and experience at CHG that Continuous Improvement can happen to you personally and professionally on many levels. You can grow in your personal life by the things you have learned and experienced through work. Professionally you grow through improving in certain areas that you feel you have the opportunity to improve in. What is your career background and what brought you to CHG? I've always worked in customer service positions. My prior job was at Principal Financial Group, which at the time shared a building with CHG. I always saw the employees at CHG having fun, and they always looked happy. I knew I wanted to be a part of it! What is your favorite part about your job? The people! Not only is the licensing team the bombdizzle, but having the opportunity to work here for eight years, I have met some amazing people that have been very impactful in my life. I also met my amazing husband here. What do you like to do when you aren't at work? Spending time with my husband and son is my absolute favorite thing to do. I also enjoy music, going to concerts, going on hikes, camping and boating. I love to be outside in the sunshine! What have you learned about yourself working at CHG? That it's okay to make mistakes. Through all the mistakes I've made, I've learned something. It is very refreshing to work for a company that is about continually improving, so it's okay to make mistakes, learn from them and move on. Because of living this way at work, it also helped me be okay with the mistakes in my personal life and being able to also grow in that aspect of my life. How have you grown as a leader at CHG? I feel extremely fortunate to be among the other amazing leaders here at CHG. I have grown by going from thinking that leadership is about making sure a process runs its best to knowing now that leadership is all about everyone else. It's not about the process, it's about the person doing that process and making sure they have everything they need to be and feel successful. My days are extremely fulfilled when I know that my team is happy with where they are at. I never knew it could make me so proud to watch someone else's success and love for what they are doing. Who has influenced you most in your career at CHG and how? I really can't name names, because there are way too many! Throughout my time at CHG I have come across too many incredible people to name just one that has influenced me. I feel that the most influential people are all those that have reported to me that I had the lucky opportunity to lead. They have all shared with me, and through their stories and successes they have helped me become a better person all around. Because they are all so incredible, they inspire me to always want to be better than I am. How do you know that what you do at CHG matters? I know because every day there is something that reminds me. Especially hearing the stories of the physicians we placed and how they saved a life, I know what I do matters. Every other role in this company matters as well, because without us all working together we couldn't successfully place physicians at those facilities.
