Employee spotlight: Gary Nishizaki

20120601_Gary_Nishizaki.jpg Name: Gary Nishizaki Job title: Senior search consultant at CompHealth permanent placement in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. Years with CHG: 13 What is your favorite part about working at CHG? I like being on the phone talking to clients all over the country or the other consultants in Utah and Connecticut. And I like going past my director, Valerie Patterson's, desk and seeing what chocolate is available in her basket! What is your most memorable experience at CHG? Qualifying and going to President's Club. I believe I went to seven or eight and have only missed one. And also, I remember going over $100K in billings twice in a month! If someone asked you what you do, how would you answer them? I tell people that I am fortunate in working for CompHealth and that we are helping physicians find jobs that are a match for their career and family. We have an impact on the smaller communities across the USA that need physicians. It's honest and rewarding work. Why did you choose to work at CHG? I had a very stressful previous job traveling Sunday through Friday meeting clients across half the USA. My son, Troy, at the time was almost three years old and usually came to watch me leave at the airport. One day he started crying seeing me leave and ran under the ropes to the gate where I was leaving. I realized I didn't want to be away from home and family. Within two weeks, I was fortunate to be interviewed and quickly hired by Weatherby Healthcare, which later was acquired by CHG. That was back in 1999, and I've been here ever since! I can honestly say that not a day has gone by where I haven't truly felt that God has blessed me to be with such an awesome company! What is your favorite core value at CHG and why? All of our core values are part of why it's great to be here. Putting people first and looking to improve are always in action by CHG. What do you like to do when you aren't at work? Mostly family time. My son, Troy, is a competitive junior golfer, so we spend a lot of time at tournaments or on the golf course. There's no comparison in how we play. Troy gets his golf balls by name-brand, and I get mine in 10-pound bags. We're going to be grandparents for the first time in mid-August. My wife, Kim, and I expect to enjoy time with our granddaughter. What is your hidden talent? Kim used to bake and sell decorated cookies. I had to learn how to decorate them. I'm sure I've done over 10,000 of them over the years -- bears, flowers, Easter eggs, dreidels, ghosts, pumpkins or whatever else you can think of. My wages were getting to eat the broken or slightly burnt cookies. If you could choose your last meal, what would it be? As long as the meal ended with chocolate, I'd be happy. What five things would you take to a deserted island? Hershey's chocolate, peanut M&Ms, shortbread cookies, Coke Zero and a Bible. In a movie about your life, who would you choose to star as you? My wife likes Tom Cruise, so she'd pick him. LOL.
