Reading is not only a rudimentary skill, it's the essential ingredient to success. Dr. Seuss once wrote, "The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you'll go." In honor of Dr. Seuss' birthday and his contributions to children's literacy, the National Education Association celebrates Dr. Seuss Day every year as part of their Read Across America initiative.
Members of our Salt Lake City, Utah, office — including our CEO Scott Beck — partnered with the United Way to participate in this year's Dr. Seuss Day. Using company-paid Volunteer Time Off, our people proudly donned "Cat in the Hat" top hats and read to students at Granger Elementary, a local school where 79 percent of the students qualify for free and reduced lunch.
Mindy Wade, CHG associate quality manager, volunteered at the event. She enjoyed it so much, she wrote a Dr. Seuss tribute poem about her experience.
Mindy Moo and the office crew,
Oh, the wonderful things they do!
They can volunteer their time on the company's dime,
They can go like a bee
And count up to three.
They can donate their use
And teach kids about Dr. Seuss.
Oh, the wonderful feeling we get to make such a difference
When we show the act of kind benevolence.
Mindy Moo and the office crew can do it.
How about you?
