My CHG Story: Dawn McGuirk

Everyone knows that going to the gym is good for you -- good for your health, good for your stress levels and even good for your social life. For Dawn McGuirk, a recruiter and provider representative at CompHealth allied health staffing in Salt Lake City, Utah, hitting the gym turned out to be good for her career.

"When I first moved to Salt Lake City from Texas, I met Tyler Black, vice president of CompHealth allied health staffing, at the gym," Dawn explains. "I mentioned that I had just moved here and needed a job, and he recommended that I call Sally Johnson, corporate manager of talent acquisition, to see if there were any openings."

Dawn applied for and received a temporary position and then a permanent position within CHG and the rest is history.

For Dawn, who confesses to be a very competitive person, the best part about her job is the constant change and the constant challenge.

"I love that it's never the same. There's always a goal to reach, and when you reach that goal, there is another challenge to strive to overcome," Dawn says. "This job allows me to constantly challenge myself and allows me to constantly strive to be better."

In addition to the challenge the job presents, Dawn loves the people she works with and the strong sense of unity she feels every day. Read about how her teams at CHG made this Texan girl feel right at home.

While I was on the talent acquisition team, I was feeling homesick for Texas, so for Cinco de Mayo, my team suggested that we throw a fiesta to make it feel more like home for me. That day, I brought in my favorite recipes and we had a potluck. Back in Texas, Cinco de Mayo is always a big deal and a lot of fun, so having a fiesta made me feel like I was at home.

Later, when I took a permanent position as a recruiter, my new team kept hearing about how much I loved barbeque. So, my whole team pitched in to buy ribs. We went to the park and had a cook-off, which, of course, I won. It makes me feel wonderful to know that both my teams really wanted me to feel at home here and wanted have an insight into who I am and where I come from.

Even though it is a competitive environment here, at the end of the day we are all still a team. I love that we can be fun and competitive, but ultimately, no one can succeed without the other so we have to be cohesive and respectful while still having that competitive drive. I also love that CHG is supportive of the personal lives of the employees. Most jobs are strictly nine-to-five jobs; nothing really extends beyond that. But at CHG, however, people care about you and your life, regardless if it has to do with work or not.
