Fela Walker, a Weatherby Healthcare training specialist, and her team, the Weatherby Babies, were awarded a plaque for being ranked No. 3 among the professional service teams who helped raise funds and awareness at a recent March for Babies-Broward County event.
Because Fela and her team were unable to attend the award ceremony, Melanie Johnson, the senior community director of the Broward County division of the March of Dimes, wanted to personally drop off their plaque.
"I was elated when I heard the news," Fela recalls. "I knew we were in third place after the walk, but there was still time to raise funds, so the ranking wasn't guaranteed. Of course, I was even more thrilled to learn more than $850,000 had been raised as a result of the ‘March for Babies' event!"
Fela and her team were able to participate in several fundraising activities, including the March of Dimes 5K, a bake sale, 50/50 raffle, as well as selling T-shirts. The team ended up contributing a total of $1,720 to the organization, whose mission is to research and create programs to help promote healthy pregnancies.
