Name: Ann Smith
Position: Manager of administration at RN Network in Boca Raton, Fla.
Years at CHG: 5
What is your most memorable experience at CHG? I was chosen to go to President's Club!
What is your favorite core value and why? After spending eight years as an executive assistant at a law firm where the only thing that mattered was the bottom line, Putting People First has become my favorite core value. It is refreshing to work for an organization where people are valued and respected.
What is your career background and what brought you to CHG? I have been an executive assistant for many years in several different settings. I worked in the publishing field, a physician's office, a hospital and a law firm. My very first job was at People magazine. How I arrived at CHG is a funny story. Allison Beer (former president of RN Network) and I worked out at the same gym. I was new to Florida and looking for a job. One day in the locker room, my friend yelled out, "Anybody need an assistant? Ann's looking for a job." Allison said she was and I should send her my resume. I've been here ever since.
What is your favorite part about your job? My favorite part of my job is the people I work with. Let's face it -- we spend more time at the office than at home, and I could not have picked a greater group of people to work with.
What do you like to do when you aren't at work? Read and run.
What have you learned about yourself working at CHG? I have learned that I can do a lot of things I never thought I could do. When we lost our controller, I took over the commissions. When we lost the person who did all our reporting, I learned how to do that. I can do anything if I put my mind to it.
How have you grown as a leader at CHG? When I started, I was very task-oriented, and now I feel that I have honed in on my people skills. I feel like I've grown a lot as a leader.
Who has influenced you most in your career at CHG and how? Bill Heller (president of RN Network) and my mentor, Christine Conder (director of corporate facilities). Bill is a great leader. He is patient, supportive and motivating. He trusts that I can do the job and gives me many new opportunities to prove myself. For the past year, Christine has been my mentor. She has helped me tremendously. Christine has a way of making me feel more self-confident.
