Name: Shannon Mau
Job title: Emergency medicine consultant at Weatherby Healthcare in Fort Lauderdale, Fla.
Years with CHG: Two
What is your favorite part about working at CHG? The atmosphere here with the EM team is work hard and play hard. The pace and work ethic on emergency medicine can be dizzying to some people, but I feel right at home with my team.
What is your most memorable experience at CHG? Nothing can beat the satisfaction of booking my first days with a physician.
If someone asked you what you do, how would you answer them? I provide hospitals with physician coverage whenever they need help.
Why did you choose to work at CHG? I was working in real estate and becoming very frustrated with my career opportunities for growth. CHG presented a whole new field of employment and opportunities. It was a no brainer to accept the position.
What is your favorite core value at CHG and why? Growth. Last year I began to look into graduate school programs to help enhance my new career in healthcare. I was very concerned with trying to balance my work life with pursuing an education. Those worries were quickly squashed, as my team leaders were very supportive and encouraged my decision to enroll. With one semester remaining in my healthcare MBA program, I am thankful for such a supportive leadership team, and I appreciate their commitment to growth.
How do you know that your work at CHG matters? When I hear patient stories from my physicians, I feel a sense of accomplishment. I was able to help that patient receive the quality of care that a Weatherby Healthcare physician provides.
What do you like to do when you aren't at work? On a sunny day, you can find me at the beach playing volleyball. On a rainy day, I am usually playing poker.
What is your hidden talent? I'm better at geography than Apple Maps. I competed in the Florida state geography bee in 1998.
If you could choose your last meal, what would it be? A 16-ounce New York strip steak and a 24-ounce Porterhouse. I call it the "Turf and Turf."
What five things would you take to a deserted island?
1. Hammock
2. Unlimited matches
3. Fishin' pole (not to be confused with a fishing rod)
4. Freshwater shower
5. One very lucky lady
In a movie about your life, who would you choose to star as you? While George Clooney is my stunt double for most of my films, I would say Ryan Gosling encapsulates my full handsomeness. ;)
