In recent weeks, members of our CompHealth team in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., joined forces to raise thousands for a local hospital — and participate in a fun event that raised even more.
The Tour de Broward is an annual fundraiser featuring events for runners, walkers and bike riders. All proceeds benefit the Joe DiMaggio Children's Hospital in Florida.
"Many of us have participated in this event for the past five years," shares Christina Shea, director of the advanced practice team for CompHealth permanent placement in Fort Lauderdale. "We continue to participate because of the cause of Joe DiMaggio Children's Hospital. No child gets turned away, whether they can afford the care or not!"
Christina recruited 15 others, including friends, family and co-workers, to participate in the 5K run/walk. Together the group raised more than $2,000 to donate to the cause. One of the members of the team, Jeff Wright, an operations managers for CompHealth permanent placement, went on to win first place in his age group.
"My favorite part was running with pediatric heart patients," Christina shares. "There were a couple of kids that had surgery at Joe DiMaggio a few years back and were now able to run a 5K!"
Christina shares a special connection with causes for hospital patients such as this one because of her work in the healthcare field.
"You feel a sense of connection between the providers we place and the hospital," Christina says. "In addition, CHG really encourages our involvement in the community by offering us Volunteer Time Off."
