5 interview tips to help you land a great job at CHG Healthcare

If you're on the hunt for a new career, there are a lot of options out there. In fact, the latest unemployment numbers from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics indicate there were six million open jobs at the end of December 2020. But finding the right job can be stressful, especially if you've been looking for a while. If you're interested in a career that changes lives, we may have just the job for you. Daniel Benavides, CHG’s manager of talent acquisition, has five interview tips to help you land a great job at CHG Healthcare.

1. Do your research

You won’t need to know all the ins and outs of our business but understanding what we do is essential. Daniel says one candidate assumed CHG stood for change healthcare. Another candidate admitted he’d applied for so many positions he wasn’t really sure what CHG did. “Admitting you don’t know what company you’re interviewing with is probably not a good thing to share with the recruiter,” Daniel advises.

2. Apply for jobs that match your skills

“If you’re applying to be a software engineer but all you’ve done is customer service work, that’s probably not a good fit,” Daniel says. However, he cautions, don’t feel like you need to check all of the boxes in a job description in order to apply. “If you look at the description and you meet eight of 10 qualifications, you should probably apply,” he says. “Address what you're missing during your interview.”

3. Dress up and stay focused

Don’t let the fact you can interview virtually change the nature of the meeting. Dress professionally, eliminate background distractions, and stay focused. “One candidate wore a T-shirt with holes in it,” Daniel recalls. Another was answering emails or chats during the meeting. Regardless of the format, “It’s still an interview,” Daniel says, “so come prepared and don’t forget to make eye contact.”

If you’re nervous about interviewing online, some people find it less distracting to adjust their Zoom settings so they only see the other participants, not themselves. Approach your interview more as a professional conversation than an interrogation and that will calm your jitters.

4. Shoot for the STARs

Recruiters at CHG often use the STAR method of interviewing. STAR stands for situation, task, action, and result. These kinds of questions give applicants a chance to show their skills in action. You may want to think of some practice scenarios to help you remember situations in your current or former positions that could help you illustrate STAR points. What happened? What was your role? What did you do? What was the result?

5. It's all about relationships

At CHG, we believe in Putting People First. In fact, that’s our central core value. New hires typically spend their first few weeks on the job learning about their colleagues first and then their jobs. That’s because our culture is caring – about our teammates, our clients, and our providers. And even in a pandemic, we’ve kept that culture strong. The work we do changes lives for people inside and outside of our company.
