1. Do your research

You don’t need to know all the details of our business, but understanding what we do is essential. Looking into locum tenens is a good place to start.

Anji says one candidate admitted he’d applied to work for so many companies he wasn’t really sure what CHG did. “It’s probably not a good idea to tell the recruiter that you don’t know which company you’re interviewing with,” Anji advises. Re-read the job description to remind yourself what the role entails and how your experiences align with what CHG is looking for.

Understanding CHG Healthcare’s core values and culture can also help you stand out. Knowing who we are as a company will help you articulate how your values align with ours, setting you apart during the interview process. Visit our company overview page to familiarize yourself with our mission and values.

2. Sell yourself during the job interview

Be sure to present yourself professionally and positively in how you talk, dress, and act. Confidence is key, so don’t be shy about showcasing your strengths and accomplishments. “If you meet eight of the ten qualifications listed in the description, you should probably apply,”  Anji says. “Address any missing qualifications during your interview.”

Dress professionally, eliminate distractions, and be present. Regardless of the format, “an interview is an interview,” Anji says. “Be prepared, minimize distractions as much as possible and make eye contact.”

3. Use the STAR method

One way to impress during the interview process is to prepare your answers to potential questions using the STAR method. This method provides a clear format for telling a story by sharing the situation, task, action, and result. Here’s how to use the STAR method:

Situation: Set the scene of a specific event from a previous experience, providing the necessary details for context.

Task: Describe your goal or responsibility in that situation.

Action: Outline the steps you took to accomplish your goal, focusing on your personal contributions over what your team or company did.

Result: Share the outcome of your actions.

The STAR method is a great way to highlight your skills with real examples. If it doesn’t come naturally at first, practice how you would respond to these common questions:

  • Will you describe a project you completed that you’re proud of?
  • Describe a time you failed and how you dealt with it.

4. Ask questions

In an interview, the questions you ask are just as important as the answers you give. Take advantage of the time you have to ask questions that will help you find out if CHG is a good fit for you too. Plus, preparing thoughtful questions helps us to know that you are passionate and eager to join our team.

Ultimately, you should be interviewing us just as much as we’re interviewing you, so don’t be afraid to speak up.

5. Relax and take a deep breath

Interviews are nerve-wracking, so conquer your interview fears. You’ve already put in the hard work; now it’s time to showcase your skills. So, relax! We’re real people, too. Here at CHG, we value putting people first, including you! We want to see your authentic self, not just a rehearsed version of you. So, take a deep breath and let us see how you’ll be a great addition to our team.
