For the last seven years, our Global Medical Staffing
division in Salt Lake City has raised money for the Fourth Street Clinic
, a local nonprofit that provides high-quality healthcare to Utah’s homeless.
“We chose to support the clinic because their mission to help the homeless fits well with our mission to place doctors into areas of need,” says Lanissa Bell, risk management and quality assurance director at Global Medical Staffing. “In fact, we’ve placed one of our doctors at the clinic.”
Having fun raising money
From January to May, employees participate in a variety of fun events to raise money for the clinic. This year’s events included monthly lunches, office grams, bakes sales, and a Minute-to-Win-It competition where employees competed in events like moving M&Ms from one bowl to another with a straw, rolling an Oreo from their forehead to their mouth without dropping it, and twerking ping-pong balls out of a tissue box strapped to their back.
“The activities make you laugh, bring us together as a group, fill you up with delicious food, and allow you to let coworkers know they are great,” shares Jennifer Lenz, account manager. “But, in the end, knowing it will help people in need have access to medical and dental care makes you want to do all you can.”
Each year, the division ends its four-month long fundraising efforts with its biggest event — an auction. The office is divided into teams and each team puts together a basket to be auctioned. The team that raises the most money with their basket wins a fun offsite team activity. This year’s baskets didn’t disappoint with items such as summer fun passes to local amusement parks, the zoo, and the aquarium, gift certificates to a mystery room and local restaurants, and lottery tickets.
“In our business, we see the importance and need for healthcare for everyone, and if we get to have a little fun and some great food while helping to make that happen — all the better,” training manager Dena Sween says.
Giving back in a big way
Thanks to the generosity of our people at Global Medical Staffing, the office raised $9,869 for Fourth Street Clinic, which was then matched by CHG for a total contribution of $19,738!
“Supporting our community is part of who we are,” shares Tyler Black, division president of Global Medical Staffing. “Our core value of Putting People First not only encourages us to take care of each other, but to make the world around us a better place, too. Many of the people on our staff have a passion for the Fourth Street Clinic. They understand how impactful the work and fundraising we do is for the organization and they’ve seen firsthand the positive impact it makes.”
Lanissa adds, “I think most people want the opportunity to help others and do more for the community, but a lot of them just don’t know where to start. By making this a part of our workplace culture, we have brought the issues surrounding medical access for the homeless to the forefront of our people’s minds and have given them the opportunity to help where they can.”
